THE GREAT ISAIAH SCROLL FROM QUMRAN (1QISAA): ORTHOGRAPHIC AND SCRIBAL FEATURES, ANALYSIS, AND TRANSLATION — COLUMNS 11–20

Introduction

This section presents columns 11–20 of the Great Isaiah Scroll from Qumran (1QIsaa), continuing the comprehensive research project encompassing all 54 columns of the manuscript.

Each column is analyzed as an independent textual unit within a broader philological and linguistic framework. The study focuses on orthographic variation, scribal practices, morphological patterns, and the internal structure of the text, with particular attention to the use of matres lectionis, spelling consistency, and deviations from the Masoretic tradition.

The analyses aim to identify recurring scribal tendencies and to contribute to a more precise understanding of textual transmission in the Second Temple period. Special emphasis is placed on the interaction between orthography, phonology, and discourse structure, as well as on the relationship between the Qumran text and later textual traditions.

This section builds upon the methodological foundation established in Columns 1–10 and further refines the line-by-line analytical approach applied throughout the project.

Each study includes a detailed philological analysis and an English translation, providing insight into both the linguistic and interpretative dimensions of the text.

All entries provide direct access to the full studies via external academic repositories.
