HEBREW BET LEVEL (INTERMEDIATE MODERN HEBREW)

The Institute for Hebrew Language and Literature offers the Hebrew Bet Level course, an intermediate-level program designed for students who have already completed beginner and advanced Hebrew courses or possess equivalent knowledge.

This course follows the structure of Israeli Hebrew language programs and focuses on developing functional fluency, enabling students to communicate with confidence, understand spoken Hebrew in real-life situations, and read more complex texts.

The course lasts six months and is held twice a week via Zoom.
The program begins on December 5, 2026.

Entry Requirements

Enrollment in the Bet Level requires:

  • completion of Hebrew for Beginners and Advanced Hebrew
    or
  • demonstrated intermediate knowledge of Hebrew

All candidates without formal certification will undergo a short assessment via WhatsApp call to determine their level.

Course Content

The Hebrew Bet Level represents a significant step forward in language proficiency and is aligned with the structure of Israeli “Ulpan Bet” programs.

The course includes:

  • substantial expansion of vocabulary (daily, professional, and contextual)
  • advanced grammar and verb systems (including more complex tense usage)
  • development of fluent reading skills (modern texts, dialogues, short articles)
  • structured conversation practice in real-life scenarios
  • listening comprehension using authentic spoken Hebrew
  • spontaneous communication and expression of ideas
  • writing short and medium-length texts in Hebrew
  • refinement of pronunciation and natural speech rhythm
  • idiomatic expressions and common spoken Hebrew phrases
  • exposure to Israeli culture, society, and everyday language usage
  • deeper understanding of how Hebrew functions as a living language

The course is designed to move students from structured learning toward independent use of Hebrew in real communication.

Course Structure and Expectations

This is an intensive and demanding course, intended for serious students who want to achieve a higher level of proficiency.

Participants are expected to dedicate 30–45 minutes of daily study at home in addition to live sessions.

All participants receive complete course literature in PDF format free of charge, including grammar materials, vocabulary lists, reading texts, and practice exercises.

The Bet Level serves as preparation for Gimel Level (advanced fluency) and further specialized study.

Schedule

Classes are held twice weekly via Zoom.
The exact schedule (days and time) will be announced prior to the start of the course.

Instructor

The course is led by Prof. Željko Stanojević, Hebrew linguist and specialist in modern Hebrew language, with extensive experience in teaching and research in Hebrew linguistics and Semitic languages.

Fees and Enrollment

Course fee:

  • 600 EUR (full payment)
  • 130 EUR per month (installment plan)
