BIBLICAL HEBREW – BET LEVEL
The Institute for Hebrew Language and Literature offers a Biblical Hebrew Bet Level course designed for students who have already acquired a solid foundation in Biblical Hebrew and wish to advance toward deeper textual understanding and analysis.
This course follows the structure of advanced Biblical Hebrew programs inspired by Israeli academic models and ulpan-style progression, where each level systematically builds upon the previous one through consolidation and expansion of knowledge.
The course lasts six months and is held twice a week via Zoom.
The program begins on December 5, 2026.
Entry Requirements
Enrollment in the Biblical Hebrew Bet Level requires:
- completion of Biblical Hebrew (initial level) or equivalent
or - demonstrated intermediate knowledge of Biblical Hebrew
All candidates without formal certification will undergo a short assessment via WhatsApp call to determine their level.
Course Content
The Biblical Hebrew Bet Level represents a transition from basic understanding to structured and analytical reading of biblical texts.
Following the logic of Israeli Biblical Hebrew programs, this level focuses on consolidating and expanding grammar and vocabulary while introducing more complex textual analysis.
The course includes:
- intensive reading of Old Testament passages in original Hebrew
- expansion of Biblical Hebrew vocabulary (including less frequent lexical forms)
- deeper analysis of verbal systems and grammatical structures
- study of complex sentence patterns and narrative structures
- introduction to systematic textual and philological analysis
- guided translation of increasingly complex biblical texts
- understanding stylistic features of Biblical Hebrew
- recognition of parallelisms, repetitions, and structural patterns
- contextual interpretation within historical and cultural frameworks
- introduction to textual comparison (basic level)
- connections with Aramaic and broader Semitic linguistic patterns
A central part of the course is continuous work with original Old Testament texts, moving from guided reading toward independent comprehension and interpretation.
