Research in Biblical Hebrew, Exegesis, and Translation
The Institute for Hebrew Language and Literature (Belgrade) conducts scholarly research in the field of Biblical studies, with a particular focus on Biblical Hebrew, Old Testament exegesis, and the theory and practice of translation.
This research is grounded in a philological approach that integrates linguistic analysis, semantic interpretation, and the study of textual traditions. Special attention is given to the structure and function of Biblical Hebrew, as well as to the relationship between source texts and their translation into Serbian.
The Institute’s work in this field encompasses both theoretical and applied dimensions, including the analysis of lexical, grammatical, and contextual features of Biblical texts, as well as their interpretation within broader historical and cultural frameworks.

- analysis of Biblical Hebrew language and structure
- Old Testament exegesis and interpretation

- study of textual transmission and linguistic variation
- interaction between Hebrew and Indo-European linguistic systems

A major contribution within this field is the publication of a complete translation of the Bible:

Prepared by the Institute for Hebrew Language and Literature under the supervision of Željko Stanojević, this translation reflects a linguistically and philologically informed approach to the rendering of Biblical texts.
Scholarly Output
In addition to this translation, the Institute has published a number of scholarly works in the field of Biblical studies, particularly in Old Testament exegesis, Hebrew philology, and related disciplines.
