Description
The Hebrew–Serbian Dictionary (2001) is a unidirectional lexicographic work that systematically establishes lexical correspondences between Hebrew and Serbian, with primary relevance for the interpretation of Biblical Hebrew texts. The dictionary is designed to support philological analysis, translation practice, and academic study within the fields of Hebrew linguistics and Biblical studies.
The lexical entries are organized with particular attention to semantic range, contextual usage, and functional equivalence, enabling precise interpretation of Hebrew source material. The work reflects principles of descriptive lexicography, emphasizing semantic differentiation and contextual disambiguation as core methodological components.
In addition to its primary focus on Biblical Hebrew, the dictionary incorporates relevant diachronic layers of the Hebrew language where necessary for accurate semantic interpretation. This approach allows for a more nuanced understanding of lexical meaning across different historical stages of Hebrew.
As one of the early comprehensive Hebrew–Serbian lexicographic resources, this volume contributes to the development of Hebrew philology and linguistic scholarship in the Serbian-speaking academic environment, providing a structured foundation for further research in Semitic linguistics and translation studies.
