Academic Profile
Prof. Dr. Yigal Levin is Professor in the Martin (Szusz) Department of Land of Israel Studies and Archaeology at Bar-Ilan University. He is internationally recognized for his research on the historical geography of the Land of Israel, the history of ancient Israel and Judah, biblical historiography, and the relationship between archaeological evidence and the Hebrew Bible.
His scholarship combines biblical studies, archaeology, epigraphy, and historical geography to reconstruct the political, social, and territorial development of ancient Israel. A particular emphasis of his work is the use of geographical, genealogical, and archaeological evidence to illuminate the historical context of biblical narratives.
Prof. Levin has published extensively on tribal organization, settlement patterns, biblical genealogies, Jerusalem during the First Temple period, and the historical development of the kingdoms of Israel and Judah. His work has become an important contribution to interdisciplinary biblical scholarship.
